NFTs (non-fungible tokens) became popular last year after some elements of digital art and even the first ever tweet formatted for this new technology were circulated in the millions of dollars. All this financial movement sparks a curiosity to understand what an NFT is, after all.

It is a digital asset that resides on the blockchain, which is a record of transactions kept on networked computers. Blockchain acts as a kind of public ledger, like accounting, allowing anyone to verify the authenticity of an NFT and who owns it. Unlike most infinitely playable digital items, each item has a unique digital signature that ensures its authenticity.

This technology has also reached the music market with promises to revolutionize the way artists interact with fans and market their singles, concerts, and other music products. This also ensures that musicians have greater autonomy over the distribution of their work, for example, as well as the ability to monetize these digital assets.
