The Palmyra Family Farmers Cooperative is growing with the support of Coopera PR

The program has transferred 393,400 Brazilian reals, in which a transport cart with a cooler box, a cold room and a freezer was obtained, which will help in the storage and transportation of family farming products.

On Thursday, the Palmyra Family Farming Cooperative (CAFPAL) officially received (19) vehicles and equipment to accelerate and expand trade. The funds were provided through the Coopera Paraná program of the state Department of Agriculture and Supply, which allocated R$393,416.00 to this entity. The value made it possible to purchase a van (150 hp) with cooler box (356,060.00 R$) and a cold room and freezer (37,356.00 Rs).

The project anticipates improvement in the post-harvest process of produce with investments in storage and transportation infrastructure. With this, it will be possible to increase the quantity and variety of products marketed by the cooperative, including value-added products, such as baked goods (among them, some use rye and wheat from the producers themselves), jellies, sweets, juices and preserves (cucumbers, beets, carrots, pickles).

The union of producers tends to reduce costs and increase profits. Paraná has 171 small farmers’ cooperatives that are building their market space through state programmes, as indicated by the Minister of Agriculture and Supply, Norberto Ortegara.

“We have a duty, as an agricultural unit, to promote this type of initiative, with Coopera Paraná, which selects organizations based on criteria including social and environmental aspects, or other programs such as Banco do Agriculture, Compra Direta Paraná, in addition to technical assistance and information technology,” he said. .

The mayor of Palmira, Sergio Pelech, highlighted that the municipality is among the 20 major producers of Paraná, highlighting milk, chicken, corn, soybeans, vegetables and fruits. “Coopera Paraná has contributed a lot to the growth of family farming in our state,” he said. Speaking about the importance of the joint work of the municipalities and the state administration, he announced that the city government intends to give the land to the cooperative to build its own headquarters.

CAFPAL President Ismail Lourenço Alpink thanked the team at Seab and the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Rural do Paraná Iapar-Emater (IDR-Paraná) for their support, and said the project benefits, as well as the producers, schools in the city. “Now they will receive products from family farming for their students’ meals with higher quality and faster food delivery,” he said.

Albino added that the purchase of equipment is another motivation for the cooperative to find a place to build its headquarters. “In the future, we want to become the central family agricultural cooperative in the region,” he declared.

This initiative allows for expansion and diversification of the products sold, with better storage conditions. They can be distributed in different buyer’s markets, such as Municipal Market Fair, Organic Fair, baskets that producers deliver to vulnerable families, as well as participating in PNAE and PAA, Coopera Paraná Program Coordinator Jefferson Meister explained.

Cabal – CAFPAL was established on May 20, 2011 and currently has 102 members, 33.33% of whom are women, 2.94% settled by PNRA and 0.98% by quilombolas. It is a cooperative that has producers and organic products.

Throughout its course, both the organization and its members have been advised by technical assistance and rural extension organizations, focusing on the work of the former Paraná Institute of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Emater), now IDR-Paraná, and Agência for the development of Far Western Paraná (Adeop), Through the government programs Pró-Rural and Mais Gestão, respectively.

In 2020, with a turnover of about R$450,000, it produced 130 tons of a variety of foods, including fruit (in nature and processed into juices, jams and jelly), vegetables, baked goods (homemade cakes and bread), eggs, beans and Creole corn derivatives. . Its main market is currently PNAE (Municipal and State), with sales of nearly 300,000 R$, and selling of seeds and seedlings, with sales of nearly 150,000 R$.
