FABIA can now be ordered with some comfort solutions that were previously reserved for cars of a higher class. All engines available for the new Fabia are of the EVO generation. It is more economical than previous units and complies with Euro 6d emission standard.

For powers up to 95 hp (70 kW), FABIA is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox; For the 110 hp (81 kW) 1.0 TSI, there is a choice between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG transmission. These improvements were achieved with an improved camshaft – pistons and piston rings included to reduce friction losses. The water circuit around the cylinder head and engine block has been redesigned to achieve greater cooling efficiency for the cylinders, combustion chambers and the integrated exhaust manifold.

The MPI engines installed in the new FABIA operate according to the Atkinson combustion cycle, in which the intake valves are closed only during the piston’s compression stroke. This returns some of the fuel mixture to the intake manifold, reducing the effective compression ratio, while maintaining a high compression ratio of 12:1. As a result, the engine consumes less fuel and is therefore more efficient.

Innovative plasma coating for 1.0 TSI engines

The two 1.0 TSI direct-injected engines available on the new FABIA feature plasma-coated cylinder liners. The innovative powder-coated thin film measures just 150 µm (0.15 mm) in size and replaces cast iron cylinder liners, reducing internal friction in all three cylinders. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions. By better distributing and dissipating heat in the combustion chamber, it also reduces the heat load on the engine.

Engines run on a low fuel consumption Miller cycle with a high injection pressure of 350 bar. In the Miller cycle, the intake valves remain open longer during the compression stroke, reducing pumping losses and improving thermal efficiency. The turbocharger features a variable geometry that produces more torque over a wider range of engine speeds and lower emissions.

Engines and transmissions developed and produced by Skoda Auto in the Czech Republic

Most of the engines and all gearboxes on the new Skoda Fabia model are produced in the Czech Republic. MPI and 1.0 TSI engines were manufactured at Skoda’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav, as well as manual transmissions. The seven-speed DSG transmission is produced at the Skoda plant in Frächlabi. TSI engines have a gasoline particulate filter.

Optional Sport Chassis and Off-Road Package
