Convenience features seen in high-end cars made their first appearance in the Fabia
FABIA can now be ordered with some comfort solutions that were previously reserved for cars of a higher class. These include a heated windshield for unobstructed visibility and increased safety in winter, and a dual-spoke heated leather steering wheel designed in the latest Skoda style. A three-spoke sports steering wheel is another auxiliary, with the optional paddle shifters for the DSG transmission.
This is the first Fabia to be ordered with dual-zone air conditioning, including additional air vents in the rear of the jumbo box to keep the passenger area cool. When equipped with this optional air conditioning system, the center console has two rotating knobs to allow separate temperature regulation for both sides of the vehicle. All system functions are easy to operate with only eight buttons.
New colors and LED ambient lighting
Contrasting copper and gray stitching, as well as decorative features, bring new points of color to the FABIA cabin. New LED ambient lighting (model level standard) allows the driver to illuminate the instrument panel’s decorative finish in white or red. The center console and front door handles can also be illuminated; In addition, the ambient lighting includes front and rear LED reading lights.
The seats, which feature adjustable lumbar support for the first time, are upholstered in gray fabric in Active Trim and additional stitching in FABIA Ambition gray contrasting. On the Style, the seat covers are two-tone gray and black.
Plenty of passenger space and storage compartments totaling over 100 liters
With a wheelbase 94 mm longer than its predecessor, the new Fabia offers more room for its passengers, especially in the rear. At 2564 mm, it exceeds the wheelbase of the first generation Skoda Octavia, launched in 1996. There are 16 storage options in the new Skoda Fabia, with a total capacity of 108 liters, including a foldable central armrest with two cup holders. rear seats.
Engines: a wide range with a variety of capacities and lower fuel consumption
There is a choice of four advanced and efficient generation EVO petrol engines for the new and fourth generation FABIA. Skoda not only increased the number of available engines, but also increased the power range – from 65 hp (48 kW) to 110 hp (81 kW).
For the first time, the FABIA can be equipped with a larger 50-liter fuel tank, allowing three of the four engines to travel more than 900 kilometers on a WLTP cycle. A lower 15mm sport chassis with stiffer suspension is another option, as is the off-road package, which offers 15mm more ground clearance.
All engines available for the new Fabia are of the EVO generation. It is more economical than previous units and complies with Euro 6d emission standard.
For powers up to 95 hp (70 kW), FABIA is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox; For the 110 hp (81 kW) 1.0 TSI, there is a choice between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG transmission. When equipped with a 50-liter fuel tank – a new addition to the range – instead of the standard 40-liter tank, three of the four engines can achieve a maximum range of over 900 km.
The MPI engines developed by Skoda Auto are more powerful and require less fuel
ŠKODA AUTO is responsible for the development of all MPI engines used by the Volkswagen Group brands. The three-cylinder MPI engines from FABIA come with a displacement of one liter of EVO generation and are 4 kW more powerful than previous units, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
These improvements were achieved with an improved camshaft – pistons and piston rings included to reduce friction losses. The water circuit around the cylinder head and engine block has been redesigned to achieve greater cooling efficiency for the cylinders, combustion chambers and the integrated exhaust manifold.
The MPI engines installed in the new FABIA operate according to the Atkinson combustion cycle, in which the intake valves are closed only during the piston’s compression stroke. This returns some of the fuel mixture to the intake manifold, reducing the effective compression ratio, while maintaining a high compression ratio of 12:1. As a result, the engine consumes less fuel and is therefore more efficient.
Innovative plasma coating for 1.0 TSI engines
The two 1.0 TSI direct-injected engines available on the new FABIA feature plasma-coated cylinder liners. The innovative powder-coated thin film measures just 150 µm (0.15 mm) in size and replaces cast iron cylinder liners, reducing internal friction in all three cylinders. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions. By better distributing and dissipating heat in the combustion chamber, it also reduces the heat load on the engine.
Engines run on a low fuel consumption Miller cycle with a high injection pressure of 350 bar. In the Miller cycle, the intake valves remain open longer during the compression stroke, reducing pumping losses and improving thermal efficiency. The turbocharger features a variable geometry that produces more torque over a wider range of engine speeds and lower emissions.
Engines and transmissions developed and produced by Skoda Auto in the Czech Republic
Most of the engines and all gearboxes on the new Skoda Fabia model are produced in the Czech Republic. MPI and 1.0 TSI engines were manufactured at Skoda’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav, as well as manual transmissions. The seven-speed DSG transmission is produced at the Skoda plant in Frächlabi. TSI engines have a gasoline particulate filter.
Optional Sport Chassis and Off-Road Package
In addition to the standard chassis, there are two variants to choose from for the new FABIA. The sport chassis is equipped with stronger springs and lowered by 15 mm for more dynamic handling characteristics.
The Rough-Road package also features its own special springs and a different suspension, as well as additional protections under the chassis. In general, the ground clearance of this type was increased by 15 mm.
