Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE vs Galaxy Tab S7: which one to choose?

South Korean giant Samsung Known when it comes to mobile phones and tablets. With a focus on innovation and build quality, their devices are often the choice of many users when they want to buy or exchange their old devices for new ones.

However, just as when launching new products – especially in the mobile part – there are variants with different labels on the same line, usually accompanied by a suffix at the end of the product name (FE, Plus, etc.), which eventually ends up raising suspicions in the consumers at the time of purchase.

In this way, Canaltech has chosen the Galaxy Tab S7 5G and Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G tablets to explain the differences between them and help you choose the most suitable option for your profile type. paying off.

Comparison between Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7 FE

Galaxy Tab S7

The Galaxy Tab S7 was one of the first tablets released from the lineup, along with the S7 Plus. Weighing about 500 grams, the device is considered to be of an intermediate / advanced configuration, aimed at a more demanding audience.

  • Dimensions: 253.8 x 165.3 x 6.3 mm;
  • Weight: 500 grams.

The version we’ll be talking about here is LTE and only works up to 4G, but it’s worth noting that there’s actually a version with 5G. They have exactly the same composition, and this is the only difference between them. For the platform, we have the Snapdragon 865 Plus, Qualcomm’s premium line.

The internal space is 128 GB with 6 GB of RAM, which is more than enough for even the most demanding activities. The screen resolution of 11 inches is 1600 x 2560 pixels. An important detail is that in all recent releases of Samsung tablets, it was noted that the manufacturer did not prioritize small screens, all of which are more than 10 inches in size.

The panel is TFT type and has a refresh rate of 120Hz. For gamers and professionals who need this kind of feature, this is a plus point for the product. In the cameras, we have 13 MP + 5 MP (rear) and 8 MP (front) lenses.

The battery capacity is 8000mAh, which ensures you long hours of continuous use, and this feature is sealed on most of the brand’s tablets. On the connectivity side, there is Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB-C 3.2. Its approximate price is 3600 BRL.

Galaxy Tab S7 FE

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE edition contains some improvements and other “cuts” to serve a different audience than the first version. Starting from the year of release, the Tab S7 FE is newer and was announced on the market in the first quarter of 2021. It is slightly heavier than its bigger brother, with a total weight of 608 grams.

  • Dimensions: 284.8 x 185 x 6.3 mm;
  • Weight: 608 grams.

One of the main differences begins with the selected chipset, since the South Korean giant used the 700 line, as opposed to the 800 of the Tab S7. Although it is a platform with lower firepower, it fits with what we call a premium medium, providing higher performance than the average hardware on the market.

Here, 128 GB of internal storage and 6 GB of RAM are provided, therefore, at this point, exactly the same characteristics as the previous device will be delivered. The fact that it is newer also has advantages, as it supports 5G network in this version.

Another feature that differs from the Tab S7 is the screen size, which is 12.4 inches in this case. The panel is also of a TFT type, but the refresh rate remains 60Hz, which is the most commonly used standard in tablets.

In terms of cameras, one 8MP lens is offered at the back, and another 5MP at the front, which is lower than what we saw previously. In terms of connectivity, we have Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB-C 3.2.

Finally, the battery has a capacity of 10,090 mAh and in my testing through the Netflix platform – its consumption is calculated after a full three hours of watching a movie or series – only 18% of the total was consumed, providing an autonomy of more than 16 hours continuous. It’s a bit cheaper than the “common” version, costing around R$2,900.

So, which one to choose?

Looking at the differences and options offered between the models, I can say that both are excellent and serve different types of users. However, there are a few points that make the Tab S7 FE more useful than the Tab S7.

In the case of the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, it was designed with the brand enthusiasts in mind and what they prioritize when using this type of device. No wonder, the S Pen has been kept, plus the tablet size has increased between versions – 12.4 inches of the S7 FE versus 11 of the regular S7.

Also considering the cost part, they used the Snapdragon 700 version, as opposed to the 800 version of the older model.

Despite making this switch, both devices have enough firepower for just about any application or task these days, as we’re talking about Qualcomm’s mid/premium ranges.

There is also a difference in battery life, with 8000mAh versus 1090mAh between them, which gives some difference in the number of hours of continuous use. The only negative part about the newer device is that the screen, although larger, is slightly yellowish, and not 100% color-loyal, especially the lighter ones.

White, for example, had a yellow undertone, giving the impression that it was a color closer to what we call “light white” rather than white itself. Not that it interferes with usability, but for people who use this type of device for drawing, for example, this can become a problem.

Therefore, among the two options mentioned, we chose the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE as the best option for the following points:

  • Screen Size: If it is important to you, the S7 FE will definitely be the better choice between the two as it has a larger screen;
  • Battery: Although the S7 FE’s screen is larger, the 1,090mAh battery provides up to 16 hours of continuous use, which can make a difference for those who consume multimedia content frequently;
  • Price: Qualcomm’s 700 series interchange allows for more attractive values, in addition to being a more modern model and can easily be found for sale at many Brazilian retailers.

So while the regular Tab S7 is a good option, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE, in our opinion, is the better choice of the two. We hope we helped you with your question. The next day!
