In addition, interference with the system has a multiplier effect on the driving passenger: the fleet drop is compromised because fewer vehicles are counted to meet demand.

“Currently we have three stations that are being monitored, but as the modules are renewed and released, they will become part of the Core. We are not expanding monitoring because we have to wait for repairs. But all 44 stations will have real-time monitoring,” explains and ensures Nova’s COO Mobi Pernambuco, Carlito Rodrigues.

“Our technology is programmed to identify movements that are considered unusual, such as a person entering the station from the outside or someone holding the doors, for example. It is a machine learning concept. When identified, it triggers an alert that something unusual has happened,” explains Danilo Franzen, IT Director. At Nova Mobi.

Machine learning is a process in which computers develop pattern recognition, or the ability to continuously learn and make predictions based on data.

Seasons left without refrigeration

One of the obstacles to the expansion of the monitoring system is the resumption of the cooling system for BRT stations. The units lost their equipment after being completely sabotaged in mid-2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

All stations operating on the east-west, north-south corridors (connecting the center of Recife to Igraso, in the northern region of greater Recife) have continued without cooling since then, a situation which should only be resolved, with compromise, until the end of this year.

According to the Recife Major Transport Association (CTM), the bid for the replacement of air conditioning equipment was launched in February 2022 and offers were received in March, and are under evaluation.

Replacing the coolers at 44 stations will cost R $3,830,960. It is noteworthy that Pernambuco BRT, called Via Livre, is the only one in Brazil and the second in the world to have refrigerated stations. Not even Curitiba, in Paraná, the cradle of order in the world, opted for refrigeration. In addition to Pernambuco, only Dubai in the United Arab Emirates – a very rich country – has cooling plants.

CTM will install the new air conditioners and maintenance will be the responsibility of Nova Mobi Pernambuco.
