the new Range Rover Sport It was finally revealed. With this new generation also comes a new “promise”: in 2024 a 100% electric version will be launched.
This does not mean that electricity has been forgotten. As we will see later, the plug-in hybrid version of this new member of the Range Rover range is not lacking in “batteries”.
But before we talk about the engines that will power the third generation of the sportiest SUV in the Range Rover range, let’s focus on its design, which is one of the reasons for the popularity of this British model.
Usually Range Rover… is different
As you’d expect, the new Range Rover Sport remains true to the brand’s “key lines”. But the new Range Rover Sport is equally successful in its mission of having an identity of its own.
In order not to lose: Jaguar Land Rover wants to ‘reduce’ emissions by 46% by 2030
At the front, the Range Rover’s slim LED headlights and smaller grille highlight the sporty side of this SUV. On the side are the retractable door handles that attract more attention. But it turns out that the Range Rover Sport in the rear combines the biggest differences to its “brother”.
There are two fundamental differences. The passage from the registration plate to the bumper and the horizontal bar connecting the rear optics. This rear optic has another peculiarity: it debuts Surface LED technology. Technology that allows uniform intensity of the illuminated surface, regardless of viewing angle.
Inside, the differences between the Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover are less obvious, but they are still there. For example, the infotainment display and the console with ventilation controls appear in a lower vertical position.
The interior of the Range Rover Sport is very similar to that of the Range Rover.
Equipped with the latest version of Information and entertainment Jaguar Land Rover’s Pivi Pro, Range Rover Sport features remote updates (over the airAnd as you might expect, it comes standard with Amazon Alexa voice assistant and pairing wireless to smart phone.
We are still in the field of technology, we find a 13.7-inch screen as a dashboard, and there is a new screen head width, The 13.1-inch curved central screen To transform the cabin into a ‘concert hall’ we have the Meridian Sound System with Active Road Noise Cancellation.
And what about the engines?
At the moment, the new Range Rover Sport is offered in two hybrid versions delivery in (P440e and P510e), petrol version (P530) and diesel variant mild hybrid (D300). All of these engines are mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
Starting with hybrid versions delivery inIt combines a six-cylinder in-line 3.0-liter petrol with a 105 kW (143 hp) electric motor integrated into the transmission.
This electric motor is powered by a large capacity lithium-ion battery of 38.2 kWh (31.8 kWh usable) – larger or larger than some 100% electric models.
Thanks to such a huge battery, the range in purely electric mode can reach 113 km.
In the P440e, the combined maximum power is 440 hp and 620 Nm while on the P510e this rises to 510 hp and 700 Nm.
As for the diesel engine, it consists of a 3.0-liter six-cylinder from the Ingenium family, which has a mild hybrid 48 volts. As for its power, as its name suggests, it is stable at 300 hp and a maximum torque of 650 Nm.
Finally, as with the Range Rover, comes the V8 that powers the Range Rover Sport from BMW. With two turbos and a capacity of 4.4 liters, this engine generates 530 horsepower and 750 Nm. At the moment, this is the most powerful engine in the Range Rover Sport and allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.5 seconds.
“to infinity and beyond”
Despite the emphasis on dynamics, the new Range Rover Sport did not neglect its “off-road” capabilities. Equipped with a dynamic and adaptive air suspension, the Range Rur Sport is the first Land Rur to feature selectable air springs and dual adaptive air chambers.
However, it’s Terrain Response 2 with configurable Terrain Response technology that deserves more attention. Among its main features, off-road cruise control stands out.
In practice, this function allows Terrain Response 2 to detect road conditions and automatically adjust the vehicle’s speed. It can be used on muddy floors, sand or even in warehouses (maximum capacity 900mm). Once this system is activated, the driver just has to “worry” about steering wheel control.
when will you arrive?
The new Range Rover Sport is now available to order in Portugal, with prices starting at €107,231 for a hybrid delivery in P440e.
