Amazon launches Echo Show 15 with facial recognition; see price | smart homes

On Wednesday (11), Amazon announced the launch of the Echo Show 15 in Brazil. The new smart display now has a facial recognition feature, which will allow Alexa to interact with each resident of the home in a customized way. This way, when a person is recognized, the virtual assistant will be able to view reminders, calendar events, or other specific information about who is passing on the device’s screen. For this, users’ faces must be pre-registered.

With a launch price of R$1,899, the device has a 15.6-inch screen with Full HD resolution. It can be wall-mounted or supported on a pedestal – sold separately – and operates both horizontally and vertically.

In addition to offering features to keep your schedule organized, and create shopping lists and reminders, the new Echo Show 15 offers integration with streaming services like Prime Video and Netflix, acting as a monitor. In addition, it is also possible to integrate the device with music services such as Amazon Music, Spotify, and Apple Music.

The device allows you to control compatible smart devices from one place, acting as a smart hub. The Echo Show 15 also has a “Smart Home Favorites” icon – a shortcut for the smart devices most frequently used by the user.

The new facial recognition feature allows Alexa to recognize who is approaching and thus customize the information displayed on the screen. With this, the screen will display each user’s specific greeting, as well as their personal reminders or recently played songs. It is also possible to leave a message for another family member, which can only be seen when Alexa recognizes it.

For those who prefer, facial recognition can be disabled. In addition, the camera has a physical cover that can be closed to ensure privacy. The device also features accessibility features, such as the ability to operate the device by simply touching the screen. You can also use Voice View to view the annotations of the virtual assistant’s responses.

With a 15.6-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera and like previous models, the Echo Show 15 can be used for video calls. In addition, the device comes with an AZ2 Neural Edge processor, with a custom architecture designed by Amazon.
