Information technology and data dictate the professions of the future – small business big business

Wagner Delpage was a commercial pilot and flight instructor. Zapata Dornellas graduated in Law; Mauricio Batista studied civil engineering. From last year to now, the three have decided to change their careers and work in very different areas of their training. Jointly, they chose the vacancies that are in the list of future occupations. Delbaje became a pilot with a drone; Thabata, the “front-end” developer (who makes web pages); and Batista, a “business process” – a function that works with running a business based on data and facts.

The Three Professionals movement serves a market that continues to grow, especially after the pandemic. With the accelerating digital transformation within companies, some functions have gained more importance and others have been created. Most of them are related in some way to technology, whether in data analysis, software development, digital marketing, or online sales.

“These occupations bring significant technical bias and are associated with digital transformation,” says Fernando Mantovani, Managing Director of Robert Half Brazil, which has just launched its 2021 Salary Guide and is bringing the jobs of the future across sectors. Many of them involve the production, collection and analysis of data in various fields. These are occupations that require the candidate to have a high level of interpretation and data analysis for application in the day-to-day business of companies.

Robert Half’s list includes jobs that not many residents are familiar with, but that are on the rise in the market, such as the leader of “Live Broadcasting”, who coordinates live broadcasts; “Pinterest”, responsible for data security; and “People Analytics,” which collects and analyzes data to manage people; In addition to software developers – professionals who now deserve “gold”. The downside is that there really is an imbalance between supply and demand for these professionals.

While some professions are disappearing, national and international companies are squabbling over the jobs of the future. The technology-related workforce shortage is a problem that afflicts not only Brazil but the entire world. An example of this is that multinational companies were looking for technology specialists in Brazil. All this helps to raise the wages of these workers.

In modern occupations, the supply of labor has been more constrained and, in some cases, the level of qualification is below the requirements of companies, says Leonardo Berto, Operations Manager Robert Half. “The data-driven decision agenda is, at today’s level, relatively new in the country,” he adds, explaining the workforce shortage.

Additionally, colleges are not prepared to train these professionals in the future. Knowledge is often gained in short and mid-term courses or when companies practically “adopt” the professional for their training. “There is a growing disconnect from traditional graduation. Curricula and training will not come first in employment,” says Diogo Forgieri, director of human resources firm Randstad de Brasil.

This trend encouraged professionals to change positions, as was the case with Thabata Dornelas. She studied law, influenced by her family, but realized during the course that it wasn’t exactly what she wanted to work at. Despite this, he completed his university studies and handed his diploma to his mother.

Discover in a startup a taste of technology. For a while, he moved through several areas until he began noticing the work of a fellow developer. “I was very interested in his work and decided to take a one-year course, which was very difficult. Eight months later, I got a job in the area,” she says, who lives in Belo Horizonte and works from a home office.

For Wagner Delbaje, change represents an alternative in the labor market. A commercial pilot and flight instructor, he was virtually unemployed during the pandemic. But the news that the regulatory agency had authorized delivery tests by drones got him moving. He searched for a drone company, introduced himself and got a job. “It brought the experience of manned flight to unmanned flight,” he said, who moved from Piracicaba to Franca to pursue this new career.
