How to take your pet outside

A pet is like a child. Anyone who has a cat, dog, bird, fish, or any of these animals that can be raised in a home environment makes this statement. No wonder it’s a pet.

But what about when the teacher decides to change the state? Digital influencer Christina Maya says on her digital platforms that planning when moving to another country should double when you have a pet.

Christina notes without exaggeration that it is necessary to submit documents for transporting the animal even before the documentation itself. He also warns that the cost can be high.

A person who wants to take his pet when moving to another country, to Europe for example, needs to go through two different processes. The first is the doctor and involves taking the animal to a veterinary clinic to place a microchip containing all of the animal’s data as well as the teachers. The second step is to provide the rabies vaccine. “Some countries like Brazil, unfortunately, have cases of rabies, which can be transmitted to humans. Portugal has very strict control and proof of vaccination is necessary,” warns the animal educator.

Next, the teacher must provide anti-rabies serology, a test that will prove that the animal is immune to this disease. Another important procedure is internal and external deworming to find out if the animal has fleas, ticks or a skin problem. “There are veterinary experts in Portugal at the airport, and if the animal has any such problem, it can be prevented from entering the country,” he warns.

A health assessment of the animal by a veterinarian is necessary to issue a report confirming that the pet is in good health and able to travel by air. Christina also notes that this veterinary experience at the destination airport should be specified in advance. It also notes that the state only accepts dogs, cats, and/or ferrets. “There is no point in bringing snakes, lizards, fish and birds because these animals are not acceptable.

The second process is bureaucratic and involves contacting two public bodies. Vigiagro Vigilância Agropecuária Internacional, an arm of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, will present the CVI (Veterinary Certificate International), a seven-page document containing all of the animal’s health information. The DGAV’s Directorate General of Food and Veterinary Medicine, which is linked to the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, will receive these documents and analyze whether they comply with the state’s legislation on animal admission.

Once you have all this done, just buy the ticket and leave on a happy journey! Christina says it’s also important to check with the airline about all pet transportation procedures. He warns that “there is also a very toughening of the international transit and transport of pets.”

The influencer notes that some airlines allow the pet to travel in the cabin with the teacher, depending on size and height. Also pay attention to paralyzed dogs and cats, which have a flat snout, which on some airlines are not allowed for flights either in the cabin or in the hold of the aircraft. “But it is necessary to check beforehand to avoid unnecessary discussions at the time of travel. Our animals have always traveled in the hold of the plane and have always arrived healthy and alive. I have traveled with them from Brazil to the United States, back and forth and also hired the services of a customs company, where there is a possibility that Animals fly on their own, but you have to hire a company for this, and it is not a cheap process … ”, he said.

Another issue Christina mentioned is the number of animals that will be taken on the trip. She herself took five pets, three cats and two dogs. But the airline did not inform her that she could not take everyone on the same flight. “My husband and I had to rush to the airport to buy separate tickets. I came with the three cats and suitcases and arrived the next day with our two dogs. It’s a huge stress, because such unpleasant surprises can happen, even people plan everything Tim Tim Tim Tim.”

Life outside with your pet

Cristina Maya says that Portugal is a country of contrasts when it comes to keeping pets. In urban centers, as in Brazil, there are pet stores that provide services that include home bathing and beauty treatments. Pets are kept indoors. In some rural areas, the dog is treated, for example, as a bodyguard of the house and kept outside in the cold in the house or lying on the floor.

Regarding veterinary treatments, Cristina warns that it is necessary to have a good financial reserve for unforeseen events, because, unlike in Brazil, procedures cannot be paid in installments on a credit card. “One of our cats had to be neutered and also had urethral surgery due to a kidney problem and suddenly we spent over 5,000 reais, weeks before we came to Portugal. If we had to do the operation here, we would have to pay the whole procedure on the bill,” he said. Says.

In Christina’s opinion, despite its height, it is well worth the investment. “They are our children, they will be eternal children until the time of death. I am always committed to the care of animals and always try to help the teachers so that they too can fulfill their dream of coming here and bringing their pets. Again, if possible!”
