Unemployment saw a slight decrease in the third quarter of 2021, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The unemployment rate in the country was estimated at 12.6%, a decrease of 1.6% compared to the second quarter of the same year (where a rate of 14.2% was recorded) and a decrease of 2.2% compared to the third quarter of 2020. (14.9%). Despite the decline, youth unemployment remains high compared to other age groups. The rate was 25.7% among the 18- to 24-year-old population.

For those who are looking for their first job or want to change jobs, the IT field is one of the most promising and far from the employment crisis that the country has experienced in recent years, including during the Covid-19 pandemic. In a LinkedIn survey released in January of this year, which listed 25 jobs with growing demand in Brazil, most vacancies were requested in the IT field. Among the most in-demand jobs are: Systems Development Analyst, Data Scientist, the backgroundproject manager, solutions analyst, data management consultant, cyber security specialist, among others.

The demand for professionals in this field, from training levels to analyst and consultant positions, as reported by LinkedIn, testifies to software engineer Fábio Pedro Ribeiro, who has over seven years of experience in the IT sector. Within the region, he cites the programming sub-area as one of the most promising.

“With today’s market in high demand, a programming specialist is one of those in the directory, which increases the chances of getting an opportunity in the area in an intermediate period of studies. The main advantage of the IT field is that since a university degree is not required to work in the area , as is required in other professions, the initial cost of entry can be very low or close to zero, since there are many free platforms, as well as incentives for many companies. What companies require of their candidates is technical knowledge, which is measured through technical exams during the selection process.

The professional explains that for those who want to start in this field, the ideal is to look for a course in programming logic, which will provide the basis for starting a career. The future professional will know content such as computer codes and programming languages and will learn how to send instructions so that the computer can process the data.

“At this point, I am suggesting Java as the language to be adopted at this beginning. A very important concept that the Java language uses, and it is necessary to have, is the concept of object routing. This means introducing a realistic representation into the code. Basically, in this concept, things interact (such as people, animals, cars, etc.) with each other by exchanging messages,” he knows.

Database – The next step for beginners in their career, according to Fabio Pedro Ribeiro, is to become familiar with creating databases, which are nothing more than the structure used to store and use information. He points out that another language called SQL (Structured Query Language) is another content that needs to be studied by the aspiring programmer.

Although the knowledge imparted in open courses is important, Ribeiro still advises investing in a higher education course in the region. “I recommend, as soon as possible, to take a more formal course at a college or university, and more specifically, an Information Systems course, because it will cover in more detail all the processes of analysis and software development. Since it is essential for the technologist to be constantly updated, becoming An expert is something that will add a lot to your career. Therefore, a postgraduate degree in Software Engineering will provide the necessary foundation to work as a professional in this field and in all software development processes”, this is what the professional advocates.
