International Symposium | Dramaturgy in the shadow theater

Coordination: Prof. doctor. Fabiana Lazar
May 7 (Saturday) and May 8 (Sunday)
From 2 pm to 5 pm.
Zoom platform – shared link after registration

The seminar aims to reflect on the different dramas in the theater of shadows. Ideal for those seeking to learn and discuss the contexts and ways theater groups work to create drama for theater productions. The topic “Dramaturists in Shadow Theatre” collaborates to bridge the gap that still exists in the growing studies of shadow theater in Brazil. If today we can record significant efforts in conducting research on the various aspects covering this field of knowledge, there are still few studies devoted to drama that are undertaken by theater groups and universities in our country.

Conclusion

Lipo Moon – Liz Mora
Poet Li Bo is our main character. In history he lost his inspiration, he found himself unable to compose new poetry. The blank paper becomes very frustrating because it is no longer filled with the poet’s words. Then Li Bo begins a pilgrimage to his homeland – China – in an attempt to recover what he has lost.
In the places our poet passes, he faces to his astonishment encounters with sacred animals who guide him in search of his way. During his journey, the moon appears clear and close as a companion, but only when he sees him, at the end of his journey, will Li Po finally find what he has been looking for.

Storytelling in Shadows – CIA Lights and Legends
Two stories are presented that blend orality with shadow theater technique. In the first story, the boy Alberto, who lived on his father’s coffee farm, plays with the other boys at a game of “Bombo Foie” and reads Jules Verne’s wonderful stories. The boy grows up, goes to France and makes balloons there, wins a prize for achieving balloon drivability, and as his research continues, he builds a plane, 14 repeaters, and then a more refined device, the Demoiselle. The second story, in the time of slavery in Brazil, shows the friendship of two sons, a slave and the son of a plantation owner. As told by the oldest slave on the farm, the slave boy’s life takes a turn and his friend helps him.
Stories based on books: “Alberto from dream to flight” by José Roberto Luchetti and “O Amigo do Re” by Ruth Rocha.

SHADING LEGENDS – PENUMBRA COLLECTION
In Sombreando Lendas we use storytelling, narration, word of mouth and shadow to tell the myths and legends of Cuiaba, Mato Grosso and Brazil. Myths are told through the ages, they are part of our culture and surround our imagination, either because we like them or because they scare us a bit. A union between the wonderful world of shadow theater and the wonderful world of myth, between tale and composition in the shadows, the play leads the spectator to travel through the realm of myth, in their curiosity and memories.

Planet Utopia – Possibility – CIA PAVIO DE ABAJOUR
Shadow theater show, without speeches, with theatrical and sound photography, entirely designed for the virtual universe. The plot of this idea is the constitution of the universe, living organisms and societies and their civilizational implications. We look back to the beginning of everything, a look that leaves itself and goes into the universe. Thus, it is our intention from the show to generate reflections on acceptance, respect and tolerance of differences. Designed for all ages, it reaches the most diverse layers of understanding and experiences.

Poitato – Ciabajaro Negro (Argentina) and Seia Teatro Lombra (Brazil)
Boitatá is a mythical being that spreads across the folklore and cultures of Latin America, and serves as the backdrop to the narrative of mystery and wild nature. The serpent of fire, a translation of M’boitata, from the Tupi language, is associated with will-o’-the-wisp and other spiritual visions that penetrate the imagination of Indians, blacks and whites and inhabit the imaginative forest of this novel. The luminous snake feeds on the light of the eyes of animals and everyone who thinks of it can have a tragic end.

GEGEGE NO KITARO – Kagbushi Theater Company
Inspired by the manga by ShigeruMizuki. A suspicious character asks boy Yuto to take a mirror to the antique store. When visiting the place for the first time, Yuto notices many strange pieces in the shop.
He discovers a doll and starts talking to her. Suddenly, the mirror emits lights, and in an instant, she absorbs Yuto and takes him to a mysterious place. Yuto is attracted to strange Yokai beings. Yokai targets his human soul when Kitaro and the gang come to his rescue. But isn’t it Kitaro a Yokai? Why is he on Yuto’s side? Something is born in the hearts of Yuto (Human) and Kitaro (Yokai).

Morning – Cie A Prendre or à Voler
Morning is a game of shadows and swing. The story of a woman is told in the form of a visual poem, against the background of the musical tones of a baritone saxophone.
“Manha” is a hybrid show, in which a piece of the circus organ thwarts the performance to become an object, part of the act, a dance partner, or a character.
Morning is an invitation to let go of intimacy, to enjoy our freedoms and to dare to be madly alive.
