Elisey Ryabocon was 13 years old when he was killed in a convoy while evacuating a war zone that had been hit by the fire.

Evhen Ryabukon gently patted the coffin. Apparently he had one last chat with his son. He cried and cried and cried before it ended.

The mother, Ina, was preparing to bid her farewell. She modified the image of a smiling boy in the photo, now in a coffin: the last act of caring for her son.

The boy’s name was Elise Riabocon. Next month he will be fourteen years old.

A little more than a month after Elise was shot dead by Russian soldiers, her family, friends, neighbors and colleagues gathered at a church in the town of Brovary, adjacent to Kiev, to say goodbye to the baby. The community that dispersed during the war is now gathered in mourning.
